WHAT IS A BARTOLIN GLAND ABSCESS? HOW IS IT TREATED?
The bartholin glands are glands located on both sides of the vagina and produce secretions into the vagina. Sometimes the ducts can be blocked due to infections and abscesses can occur inside. Those who have experienced it know that unfortunately the risk of recurrence is high after treatments.
Treatment options include drainage of the abscess (recurrence is highly likely), marsupialization (oralization surgery), removal of the gland (we do not prefer it anymore because of loss of function), and recently, catheters specially produced for this gland (word catheter) are used.
The word catheter provides a quick solution, does not require an operating room, is an effective treatment and has a very low chance of recurrence.

After the abscess is drained and the catheter is placed in the abscess lodge, it stays there for about 2 weeks. During this period, the patient is treated and recurrence is prevented as a new drainage route will be formed. At the end of the process, the catheter is removed by the doctor.
