WHAT IS A DAY OVERRUN?

Interestingly, my pregnant patients don't give birth on time. 40, 41, 42...   They say that this is because you are comfortable. Indeed, while birth between 38 and 42 weeks is considered normal, my patients do not give birth before 41. They get bored because my day has passed. Patience limits are pushed and worries increase. However, as I always say, childbirth is a matter of patience. Both mother, father and doctor will be patient. Otherwise, worry really triggers worry and unnecessary cesarean sections are performed. Let's talk a little bit about what day overrun is.

What is Day Overrun?

Overshoot is defined as a situation where the gestational week has ended but the birth has not yet occurred.

Overshoot is the name given to a delayed delivery despite the end of the 42nd week of gestation. If there is an excess of days in pregnancy and the baby continues to wait, the baby may be born on its own. However, for the health of both the baby and the mother, the birth is tried to be finalized by medical means. Another name for day overrun is called overdue. In pregnancies with day overrun, the birth of the baby on its own is among the most common risks. In pregnancies where this situation is experienced, babies at risk are brought into the world with various medical interventions. Today, it is stated that the birth interval for normal pregnancies is 38-42 weeks of gestation. The most common cause of late labor or delayed delivery is that the expectant mother misremembers the date of her period.

Overshoot - Causes of Late Birth

It is stated that the problem of day overrun during pregnancy is a condition that occurs in 10 percent of pregnant women. The reason for this is that the expectant mother's menstrual calendar is incorrect. However, among the main causes of serious day overruns, it is stated that brain development in the fetus stops and the adrenal glands in the baby in the womb grow too much. Some fetal and enzyme disorders are also cited as causes of delayed labor. Expectant mothers who have faced this problem in previous pregnancies are likely to face this problem again.
