WHAT IS A SPERM TEST?

A sperm test is one of the first tests performed when a couple who wants to have children has been unable to conceive after a year of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse.

A sperm test, also known as a semen analysis, is a laboratory test that measures the quantity and quality of healthy sperm cells in semen. Semen is the fluid that contains sperm and is released during ejaculation. A semen analysis measures three main factors of sperm health:

– Sperm count

– Sperm shape

– Sperm motility, also known as sperm movement

HOW IS A SPERM TEST PERFORMED?

Before the sperm test is performed, the person undergoing the test is examined to determine whether they have any other medical conditions or harmful habits, and details about their sexual activity are obtained. Then, the man, who has abstained from sexual activity for approximately 2 to 5 days, is taken to a room for the sperm test. The semen is placed in a sterile container in the room and quickly sent to the laboratory for examination. The sperm sample that arrives at the laboratory is examined using special equipment and techniques for semen analysis.

WHAT IS THE CHIP BABY METHOD?

In this method, live sperm are sought using very special techniques. Healthy sperm are distinguished from those that are less healthy. Sperm chips are made up of microchannels. The function of the microchannels is to select sperm of good quality. With the chip baby method, high-quality and low-quality sperm are collected on two different sides. On one side, healthy sperm with intact DNA are collected, while on the other side, sperm that are less healthy and have damaged DNA are collected. This eliminates the risk of selecting unhealthy sperm and reducing the chances of pregnancy. The first stage of treatment involves separating the sperm using the microchip method and finding the highest quality sperm. At the same time, hormone treatment is administered to increase the number of eggs in the mother-to-be. In the final stage, the sperm is placed in the uterus and fertilization of the egg is awaited.

The sperm with the best DNA is selected.

The chip baby method enables more successful insemination by selecting high-quality sperm. With improved sperm chips, healthy and high-quality sperm are separated from other sperm, just like a filter. These healthy sperm found in microchannels are stored in a different place. The sperm placed on the chip move like a flock of migrating birds, bringing the sperm with the best DNA to the front.
